Inspired by pop a cappella groups in USA and Europe, Switch formed in late 2012 with the aim to influence the growing Aussie A Cappella scene. With fresh music and arrangements, they bridge the gap between the strong choral tradition in Australia and the contemporary music scene.
Switch’s results at the AUS-ACA 2013 Video Competition were extremely impressive, walking away with the following titles: Winners of the University Division, People’s Choice: 3rd place, Best Pop Song: 1st & 3rd, Best Soloist: 1st & 3rd, Best Arrangement: 2nd & 3rd and Best Vocal Percussionist: 1st & 2nd.
As a result of their success at AUS-ACA 2013, Switch have gone on to receive recognition both in Australia and internationally. In the last four months Switch was voted Runners Up for ‘Favourite Oceanic Group’ in CASA‘s International A Cappella Community Awards, have been featured on International A Cappella Vlog Inside A Cappella, won a single recording award through Melbourne Fresh, and won a featured spot performing at incredibly well renowned Melbourne band venue, The Corner Hotel!
If that wasn’t enough success, in just a few short months, Switch have just been selected as one of only 20 groups worldwide, alongside The Idea of North and Club for Five, chosen for Voices Only Forte III – International A Cappella Compilation Album! Switch’s chosen track ‘As Long As You Love Me’ was mixed by Grammy winner, Bill Hare, and mastered by Vocal Mastering, who are both AUS-ACA 2014 Major Prize Sponsors! Listen to Voices Only on iTunes.
This is only the beginning for Switch. Already they inspire their peers and the next generation of Aussie A Cappella singers and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for them in 2014.
