Congratulations to AUS-ACA VIC State Final Champions Co-cheòl: Georgina Walton, Claire Patti, and sisters Ginger and Merrily Hansen. The sweetly intoned, Celtic-inspired tunes of this all-female quartet are sure to transport you to a distant sonic world. Their Scots-Gaelic namesake, “co-cheòl,” appropriately translates to “harmony.”

In light of their successful debut at the 2013 Cygnet Folk Festival in Tasmania and Clare Patti’s individual recognition as “Female Vocalist of the year” in the 2014 Australian Celtic Music Awards, it’s no wonder Co-cheòl’s performance at the Vocal Australia State Finals took the competition by storm, sealing a first place victory along with the following Special Awards:

  • Best Contemporary Song: In This Heart
  • Best Band (3-10 singers)

With quietly powerful, clear harmonies and an arresting presence from the moment they took the stage, their two songs–a humorous, pan-genre arrangement of Eleanor McEvoy’s “Look Like Me” and Sinead O’Connor’s plaintively beautiful “In This Heart”–were something to behold.

Co-cheòl’s collective sound is confident, clear, and bright. Catch them at the AUS-ACA National Finals on September 6. See you there!
